PUBLIC NOTICE
TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS
To Conduct Voting Machine Testing
The Transylvania County Board of Elections will begin logic and accuracy (L&A) testing on Monday, September 14, 2026 for voting systems that will be used in the 2026 General Election. Testing will be conducted for all contests in the election. Testing will continue during business hours until completed. L&A testing ensures each voting system will correctly count and tabulate each ballot cast.
Before every election, county boards complete L&A testing to ensure proper coding of ballots and tabulation of votes for each contest.
Ballots of each style are coded for a mock election and run through the tabulator. The test checks the voting system’s ability to read each ballot style and the accuracy of the tabulator when counting votes. Election staff and a bipartisan team oversee the preparation and testing of machines, conduct the tests, and certify the equipment is ready for the election.
After testing, election staff clear the equipment to ensure no L&A test information remains on the system heading into the elections. Equipment is verified to have zero votes, then sealed and recorded on a chain of custody.
L&A testing is open to the public. The public may observe the equipment preparation and testing, provided they do not interfere with the process.
