Pisgah Legal Services opens new Brevard Office

Members of the downtown Brevard business community cut a ceremonial ribbon on June 24 to open Pisgah Legal Services’ new office located at 130 Broad St. Jonathan Rich / Brevard Beagle

Multi-colored confetti wafted through the air as a ceremonial red ribbon was cut Wednesday afternoon to officially open Pisgah Legal Services’ new office space located at 130 Broad St. for business.

The non-profit legal aid organization provides a broad array of free, civil legal aid, anti-poverty advocacy and access to health care assistance in the 18-county western North Carolina region. It has been serving residents of Transylvania County since 1980 and in 2025 assisted more than 750 people in Transylvania County, many of whom were living on or below the federal poverty line.

“We are here to really stand in that gap between what could be a disaster for them if they did not have proper representation,” PLS Executive Director Jaclyn Kige told the standing room only crowd inside the new office space shared with attorneys from McKeller Law, P.C. “Last year, collectively, we served almost 28,000 people across 18 counties, which is a daunting task, but this is the region that we are attempting to serve. The reality is that too many people are living in poverty.”

Pisgah Legal Services previously assisted clients from an office in the Hollingsworth Building on West Main Street.

The new Brevard office on Broad Street is open for appointments Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
