The U.S. Forest Service said Saturday that the Looking Glass wildfire in Pisgah Forest that had burned since Tuesday has been 100 percent contained.

Thirty acres of the popular Pisgah Ranger District in Pisgah Forest was ablaze for most of last week, but the diligent work of firefighting crews completely snuffed out the danger by midday on Saturday, according to a news release.

“The Looking Glass Fire has reached 100% containment as of April 11, 2026, thanks to the efforts of firefighters,” stated a news release from National Forests in North Carolina. “Crews will continue to monitor the interior of the fire and potential existing pockets of heat. This will be the last update for this incident unless conditions change.”

Officials said the initial cause of the fire was a downed powerline, but the flames quickly spread from that incident and closed several public areas of the popular outdoor area near NC Highway 276.

As the fires have been extinguished, Fish Hatchery Road (FSDR 475), Headwaters Road (FSDR 475B) and Looking Glass Trail have reopened, but officials still urge the public to exercise caution when visiting the area as firefighters and law enforcement continue to monitor the location of the fire for safety in the heavily wooded area.
