During Heart of Brevard’s America 250 Celebration to be held downtown July 3-4, the local business organization will sell its remaining White Squirrel Weekend T-shirts and autographed event posters to raise funds for the Co-Ed Cinema.
The historic downtown Brevard movie theater was forced to temporarily close following extensive water damage this February. Donations will also be accepted throughout the weekend with all profits going toward the Co-Ed’s recovery and hopeful reopening later this summer.
The fundraiser will take place from 5-10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, or until merchandise sells out.
“The Co-Ed Cinema has been part of downtown Brevard for generations,” explained Adam Perkins, president of the Heart of Brevard Board of Directors, in a news release. “Independent businesses like the Co-Ed give our downtown its character and create the experiences that bring people together. Supporting those businesses, especially during difficult times, is central to Heart of Brevard’s mission. We hope the community will stop by, pick up a shirt or poster, or make a donation to help the Co-Ed reopen its doors.”
The fundraiser reflects Heart of Brevard’s mission to strengthen downtown Brevard by supporting the independent businesses and gathering places that make the community unique. Organizers encourage festival attendees to stop by, pick up a keepsake and help support the Co-Ed Cinema’s next chapter.
“What makes downtown Brevard special is the people and the independent businesses that invest in this community every day,” said Heart of Brevard Executive Director Nicole Bentley. “When one of those businesses needs our support, we show up. We loved these White Squirrel Weekend shirts, and instead of storing them until next May we wanted to give them a second chance to make a difference. Every purchase and donation will help support one of downtown’s favorite places.”
To purchase a White Squirrel Weekend T-shirt to benefit the Co-Ed Cinema this weekend, visit the America 250 Beer Garden at White Oaks Plaza Friday night (5-10 p.m.) or the merchandise will be available at the Heart of Brevard tent in front of the Historic Courthouse on Main Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
