The second night of a three-part songwriter series featuring teachers of Western North Carolina will feature Brevard High School’s Meredith Licht and Josh Tinsley on Thursday, May 7 at 185 King Street in the Brevard Lumberyard District.
Tinsley, a Transylvania County native, has been teaching English for 20 years and the yearbook facilitator for 15 years. He follows in the footsteps of his parents who are both retired educators. He plays manjolin for local ragtime band Unpaid Bill and the Bad Czechs and includes the novels of Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy along with the music of Jackson Browne, John Prine, and Todd Snider as his influences.
Meredith Licht is a 25-year veteran English teacher (and sometimes history teacher) who has spent her entire career at Brevard High School. She also moonlights as one of King Street’s Wednesday night karaoke hosts. She’s been playing music since her teens and finds her greatest musical inspiration comes from tragic heroines—real and imagined.
This free night of educated music will begin at 7 p.m. and is hosted by Brevard-based singer/songwriter Carrie Morrison, who also teaches English at Brevard High School. The final night in this series will be June 4 with Ryan Furstenburg and Joe Hooten.
