The public is invited to experience the North Carolina African-American Heritage Commission’s traveling “Green Book project” at the Mary C. Jenkins Community and Cultural Center.
The exhibit “Navigating Jim Crow: The Green Book and Oasis Spaces in North Carolina” highlights the experiences of Black travelers in North Carolina as they planned their journeys during the Jim Crow era with the help of more than 300 restaurants, hotels, nightclubs, salons, and other private businesses listed in The Negro Motorist Green Book.
A special reception for this exhibit will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Jenkins Community Center where local residents will share their personal experiences traveling during the Jim Crow era of legal segregation.
Admission to view the exhibit is free and it will be on display at the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center, 221 Mills Ave, during operating hours through Nov. 20th.
For information about viewing hours, email Community Center Director Tyree Griffin at tyree.griffin@cityofbrevard.com or call 828-556-7978.
