Local educators Ryan Furstenburg and Joe Hooten will step into the spotlight June 4 for the third and final concert in the free “Teacher Troubadors” singer-songwriter series at 185 King Street.
Furstenberg has been an active member of the Asheville music scene for almost two decades. His main project “The Moon and You” is a chamber-folk duo with his wife Melissa Hyman. He also performs his songs under his own name and with his roots rock group Phantom Clutch. In addition to his role as a bandleader, he has worked as a music teacher at French Broad River Academy since 2020 and in Fall 2025 became head of music at that school.
Asheville-based singer-songwriter Joe Hooten is the force behind Tin Roof Echo—a project rooted in introspective songwriting, melodic grit, and a strong DIY ethos. Since Tin Roof Echo’s 2014 debut, Hooten has released seven albums blending indie rock and alt-country with a raw, lived-in feel and has shared bills with artists like Scott Miller, Kenny Roby, Freedy Johnston, David Childers, Pylon Reenactment Society, Agent Orange, and Soul Asylum.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p,m.
