Officials from the U.S. Forest Service hope the Davidson River Campground may be reopened in July. U.S. Forest Service

The reopening of Davidson River Campground in Pisgah National Forest has been tentatively delayed to July 1, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

Officials said winter weather, including several days of heavy snowfall, created difficult site conditions that slowed construction at the popular Pisgah National Forest campground.

“I know this news is disappointing, and I want you to hear it directly from me: we are doing everything we can to get this campground open safely and beautifully. This is a place where families have made memories for generations, and we want to make sure it’s here and better than ever for generations to come, ” said Davidson River Campground Site Supervisor Bryan Ellis in a news release. “The winter hit us harder than expected, but the team on the ground has not slowed down. We are finishing something that will genuinely serve this community for years to come, and I can’t wait to welcome you back to the river.”

The Davidson River Campground closed in November 2025 for bathroom renovations and was initially scheduled to reopen to the public in May 2026 as the US Forest Service, Naventure and the Pisgah Conservancy collaborated to modernize and upgrade the facilities for improved comfort and privacy.

The statement said crews remain working hard to complete major improvements, including new bathhouses, upgraded utilities, and fresh pavement in time for the summer tourist season.
