The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to Transylvania County for its most recent comprehensive annual financial report.

A news release from the Chicago-based organization said the county’s report for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2024 demonstrated a constructive “spirit of full disclosure.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the GFOA’s highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting as it aims to advance excellence in government finance for more than 25,000 members and the communities they serve.

Transylvania County has received the award for all years except for two since 1983.

Meagan O’Neal has been Transylvania County’s Finance Director since 2023 and said the honor was the result of a continued team effort on behalf of all county taxpayers.

“This award is a goal of every county and city that completes the full financial statement packet at each year end,” O’Neal said of the honor. “In Finance, everyone has a part to play in making sure our report is at the award-winning status, and this team has stepped right up to catch me up on the setup of Transylvania County and do all they can to keep us moving.”
