A line of local residents snaked from Brevard City Hall down Main Street at noon Thursday as people patiently waited in line for a free tree giveaway sponsored by the Trust Charitable Fund, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the city of Brevard.

A total of 50 trees were distributed to local residents on a first come, first served basis with a limit of one per household.

Available tree species included Eastern Redbud, white dogwood, red maple, Allegheny serviceberry, and white oak.

The distribution was coordinated by Senior City Planner Emily Brewer and Communications Coordinator Rebecca McCann. Wesley Shook / City of Brevard

The City of Brevard is part of the Tree City USA program where a designated community must meet standards set by the National Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters.

The trees distributed Thursday were donated by the Arbor Day Foundation as part of a partnership with the Truist Charitable Fund to help replace trees in WNC communities that were lost during Hurricane Helene.
