Dozens of residents from the Rosenwald community attended Thursday night’s public information session hosted by the City of Brevard at the Mary C. Jenkins Community and Cultural Center to share information about current and ongoing municipal projects that will impact the people living there.

Topics included the status of the Mills Avenue culvert repair, the Norton Creek Streambank restoration, development of an extension of the Estatoe Trail through the historic tannery site and removal of the aging smokestack, alignment options for the future Estatoe Trail section from Main Street to Mary C. Jenkins, and the design of the Silversteen Park picnic shelter.

City staff stressed some of these projects are still in the early phases, such as the design of the Silversteen Park picnic shelter and restrooms that still needs to find a dedicated funding source. The smokestack removal has been decided due to safety issues where some of the bricks from the decaying tannery could be repurposed after demolition as a memorial to the historic business that once operated in that area of the city.

Other projects were presented by city staff to gerenate feeback from the community about options which will be discussed by the full Brevard City Council in future public hearings related to funding issues as part of the fiscal budget for the 2026-27 year.

“We want to increase awareness in the community about all the many projects that we have here in the Rosewald area,” Mayor Maureen Copelof said at the beginning of the 90-minute listening and answering session, “But we are also here to listen to you. As we move forward on these projects, we want your feedback. We want to hear your questions. If you have concerns, if you have suggestions, absolutely, that’s why we’re here.”
