The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County has named William “Liam” Transue its 2026 “Youth of the Year Award” winner.

A sophomore at Brevard High School, Transue is in the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at Brevard High School where he is responsible for the maintenance of his uniform and corps equipment as well as guiding lower-ranked cadets thriough dedicated practice of drill movements.

In 2024 Transue received the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America for his work in the Taekwondo Leadership Program at Transylvania Taekwondo leading classes as an assistant instructor.

In 2025 Transue received the Dr. Bob Graham Growth Award from The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County, an award given to a club member who exhibits outstanding personal growth.

“Liam is the kind of young person you hope every program helps develop,” stated Teen Center Director at The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County Jon Hendricks in a news release.  “He’s driven, respectful, and always willing to step up and support others. It’s been incredible to watch his growth over the years, and this award reflects that growth.”

Transue’s favorite quote is, “Don’t compare yourself to others; compare yourself to who you were yesterday.”

The “Youth of the Year” award will be presented at the club’s Teen Banquet in May. Transue will compete in the state competition in Charlotte at the end of April. Winners of the state competition are invited to compete in regional and national competitions.
