The 26th running of the Assault on the Carolinas will take place in downtown Brevard on Saturday, April 11th.

The annual fundraiser benefits the Rotary Club of Pisgah Forest and is expected to welcome more than 600 cyclists, their families, and supporters for the rides that start at 9 a.m.

Like other major events, there will be impacts to downtown streets and parking.

Event organizers have designated Broad Street as “No Parking” between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Saturday to ensure riders do not take up parking spaces in front of businesses.

The only part of Main Street closed for any length of time is between Gaston and Johnson streets. That section will be closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The entirety of Main Street is closed only for the start of the ride from 8:45 to 9:30, just long enough to get the riders out of town.

The first riders will begin returning from the 50 K bicycle race around 10:30 a.m., though others will continue to finish the 100 K through 4 p.m.

By the numbers:

  • Economic impact statistics compiled by a 2013 study done by Brevard College’s School of Business indicate 1.86 non-participants per rider, 91% Adults, 8% Children (Ages: 0-12), 1% Children (Ages: 13-17)
  • 72% of riders surveyed spent Friday night in Transylvania County.
