Decorated bicycles, scooters, wagons, strollers and other people-powered wheels will roll through downtown Brevard this Independence Day as the Heart of Brevard, Brevard Bike Alliance and CykelWorx present the America 250 Youth Bike Parade.

The parade is part of Heart of Brevard’s America 250 Celebration, a community-wide event commemorating America’s 250th birthday. Participants 18 years and younger are encouraged to decorate their wheels in patriotic style before joining a festive parade through the heart of downtown Brevard.

“We’re excited to partner with Heart of Brevard and CykelWorx to bring this tradition to the America 250 celebration,” said Nora Jane Montgomery of Brevard Bike Alliance in a news release. “The Bike Parade is a fun way for families to get involved, celebrate together and enjoy being part of the energy and excitement of downtown Brevard.”

Register online here. Preregistration is encouraged to be submitted by noon on July 3, although participants may register on-site the day of the event. There is no fee to participate. Participants should gather in the parking lot at Fable (formerly Quotations), located at 147 East Main Street, by 10 a.m. on July 4 for check-in and last-minute decorating. The parade will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Awards and prizes will be presented from the Main Stage following the parade in the following categories:

  • Grand Prize Winner
  • Best Use of Red, White and Blue
  • Most Creative

“Some of the best moments from our community events are seeing families experience downtown together,” added Nicole Bentley, executive director of Heart of Brevard. “The Bike Parade puts young people right in the middle of the celebration and adds so much energy, color and fun to the day.”

The America 250 Celebration will feature a patriotic ceremony, live music and entertainment, a classic car show, community exhibits, local food and beverage vendors, shopping and dining opportunities and Brevard’s annual fireworks display after dark.
