Brevard College Music Professor Dr. Vance Reese and student Sarah Kearney will provide organ accompaniment to three short silent film features on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall at the Porter Center for Performing Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
Before sound was added to movies, an organist or pianist would often provide musical accompaniment to heighten the film’s drama. During three short film features, Reese and Kearney will use the Kirkpatrick-Coleman pipe organ, the largest of its kind in the area, to create sound effects that accompany and enhance the drama of each film.
The features are described as “cartoon-scary” and family friendly, with plenty of comic moments and Halloween themes.
The event is being made possible by Brevard College’s Friends of Fine Arts (FOFA).
