Set against the rebellious energy of late-1970s British rock, this Macbeth sets ambition, betrayal, and a thirst for power center stage. The familiar tragedy gets a new look, but Shakespeare’s questions about what people will sacrifice to get what they want remain as relevant as ever.

The Lumberyard holds a special place in Bard in Brevard’s recent history. The company performed Romeo and Juliet there in fall 2025, and its return offers local audiences another opportunity to experience live theater in a familiar community space. Audiences who catch Macbeth at The Lumberyard can conveniently make a night of it by grabbing some food at any of the nearby local restaurants and a seasonal beverage at Griffon & Sphynx to enjoy during the show.

For Bard in Brevard, free admission is more than a ticket policy. It is central to the company’s mission: people should be able to experience live Shakespeare without the cost of a ticket standing in the way. Donations help sustain future productions, while local performers and volunteers make the work possible.

Founded in 2024 by Artistic Director Dr. Veronica Leone Matthews, Bard in Brevard creates outdoor Shakespeare productions that bring together local artists, welcome new audiences, and invite people of different ages and backgrounds to share in live performance. The company’s productions blend the language of Shakespeare with imaginative settings designed to make classic plays feel immediate and alive.

This season’s Macbeth features returning Bard in Brevard performers alongside newcomers, with a rock-inspired take on one of Shakespeare’s darkest stories. Audiences can expect the weird sisters, the ambition, the unraveling, and a theatrical experience that proves the Bard can still rock.
