Wednesday morning supporters of Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont Council celebrated the reopening of their Westfeldt Troop House and the entirety of Camp Pisgah following two full years of Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
Council Chief Executive Officer Elaine Loyack helped cut the ceremonial ribbon Wednesday with members of the Brevard Transylvania Chamber of Commerce before taking guests on a tour of the refurbished Troop House and sections of the camp damaged during the 2024 storms that ravaged much of Western North Carolina.
Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont is one of 111 councils nationwide chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA. It serves more than 5,700 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers in 40 counties each year at venues such as Transylvania County’s Camp Pisgah.
Immediately after the natural disaster in 2024, local Girl Scouts jumped into action. Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont launched the One P2P Fund which provided staff relief, membership and troop support and uniform replacement for the local council.
Camp Pisgah, including the newly renovated, now four-season Westfeldt Troop House, is now hosting local Girl Scout troops for outdoor adventures. Community rentals are open for the 2027 season for businesses and organizations to experience the connection and courage of getting outside and trying new things.
“We wouldn’t be here without the support of our many amazing volunteers, staff members and donors,” Loyack explained during her remarks to those assembled to tour the now-fully open outdoor facility. “I want to thank you, our Girl Scouts, our families and our community members who helped us return home.”

“It’s been a long journey to get camps back open and we’re honored to be celebrating this important milestone,” added GSCP2P Director of Outdoor Experience and Property Clayton Sheehan. “After the hurricane, our team immediately started addressing damage and planning repairs to get our camps back in a safe condition for Girl Scouts and the community. It has taken longer than they expected, admittedly, but we’re so excited to slowly welcome troops back to camp this spring and summer.”
Local leadership said they wanted the community to know Girl Scout families are now getting back outdoors at their beloved camp to build skills, gain confidence and create lifelong memories.
