When Brevard College students returned to campus last month, they found some aspects of campus very different than when they left it at the end of the school year in May.
In the Spring of 2025, administrators announced Myers Dining Hall would be demolished to give way to a new $16 million Student Center on schedule for completion in May of 2027.
The footings for the new building are almost complete and a new pedestrian plaza is expected to be completed this month as what is currently Campus Drive and a large stretch of campus will turn into a walkable promenade adjacent to where the student center will be.

When it opens next year, the roughly 30,000 square-foot Student Center will feature an indoor/outdoor communal gathering space for students in addition to new dining facilities and kitchens, a fitness center, lounges, fireplaces, game tables and a new mail facility.
Still the question from some outside the school remains: where do the students eat while on campus?
“Until the Student Center is completed, the students are dining in the auxiliary gym at the Boshamer Gymnasium which has been transformed into a dining hall,” explained Brevard College Senior Director of Public Relations Phil de Montmollin. “Food is prepared at the Brevard Music Center, then delivered to the dining hall where students enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. The interim dining offering is not open to community members outside of the college, however dining at the new Student Center, once complete, will be open to the public.”
With these changes to the campus dining hall also came changes to the college’s dining services.

Erik Sandstedt was appointed Brevard College’s general manager of dining services in January of 2026.
The administration said his extensive expertise as a chef, caterer, and overseeing large-scale campus dining operations at UNC Asheville, Lenoir-Rhyne University and Western Carolina University has been to the benefit of the school’s nutritional buffet, but Sandstedt also recently made two local hires to enhance the flavor of Brevard College’s edible offerings.
Karen Wilson and Brooke Jones of Little Creek Subs popular breakfast and lunch food truck are now part of the staff at Brevard College.
“We are very excited to now have Karen and Brooke on board as part of our dining team here at Brevard College,” Sandstedt said of the pair who also previously worked at Creekside Subs across from the school. “Their understanding of our local market, combined with their experience and talents make them a great fit as we work to enhance our students’ dining experience here at Brevard College.”
The College is currently hiring cooks, food service workers and dishwashers to work at the auxiliary gym dining hall. Those interested may apply at https://brevard.edu/employment-opportunities/.
