The Transylvania County Library’s “Noontime Notions” series continues at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 18 with “All About Fly Fishing! — An Interactive Journey Into One of the World’s Oldest Angling Traditions” presented by local instructor Stephanie Adams in the Rogow Room of the Transylvania County Library.
Dive into the fascinating world of fly fishing with this is a lively, activity-packed introduction to a sport whose roots stretch all the way back to 200 AD in ancient Macedonia. This free program blends history, conservation, technique, and real-world practice to spark curiosity and inspire new anglers to get out on the water.
Stephanie Adams is a certified naturalist who previously served as a River Ranger with the U.S. Forest Service, as Education Chair for NC State Board of Trout Unlimited and as the assistant director of education for the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association where she helped expand environmental education programs rooted in the history and ecology of the Pisgah National Forest.
She served on the Transylvania County Natural Resources Council for six years. She is a NC Wildlife Resources Commission certified fly fishing instructor and the founder of the Brook Trout aquarium in the Brevard/Transylvania County Visitors Center.
Adams’ presentation will cover the essentials every budding fly angler should know. Most of the session is built around interactive activities and demonstrations in order to give participants the chance to practice casting, explore gear, and learn techniques up close.
The goal is simple: get excited, confident, and inspired to step outside and enjoy fishing — whether it’s your first cast or your 50th.
This program will last about an hour and is open to the public with no registration required.
