The Transylvania County Library’s Noontime Notions series continues Tuesday, July 21 with “From Appalachia to Antarctica,” a presentation by local author and arctic expedition guide Jacob ‘Val’ Myers who in 2023 attempted to become the youngest person in history to ski alone and without resupply to the Geographic South Pole in Antarctica.
His presentation will explore both that harrowing adventure and the way his Appalachian upbringing shaped his relationship with the lands he has travelled to and from.
Myers is the author of “Blue Ridge | White Desert” and a has served as backpacking guide for Adventure Grown Guides in Pisgah Forest. Among his growing list of achievements, he has completed four 100-mile ultramarathons and one 250-mile ultramarathon.
The free program will take place at noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21 in the library’s Rogow Room and is open to the public.
