Governor Josh Stein has ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be flown at half-staff beginning until sunset on Saturday, July 18 in honor of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham who passed away on Saturday, July 11.
Graham, a longstanding Republican politician, represented South Carolina and was the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and previously represented South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 through 2003. Sen Graham also previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. He passed away July 12 at age 71 from a brief and sudden illness, according to aides in his Washington office.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff through dusk on Saturday.
