City of Brevard
The Brevard Police Department swore in Alan Bonanno as its new deputy chief on Tuesday.
Bonanno began his law enforcement career in 2007 as a police cadet with the Asheville Police Department before he served for seven years with the Laurel Park Police Department.
He transferred to the Hendersonville Police Department in 2015 and plans to bring all those experiences to the Brevard Police Department as it seeks accreditation through the North Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation program.
“Having spent considerable time in Brevard over the years, the opportunity to serve this community feels like a natural fit,” Bonanno said in a news release from the City of Brevard. “I am committed to building strong relationships, supporting department personnel and serving the City of Brevard with the highest level of professionalism, integrity and dedication.”
Brevard Police Chief Christy Wentzell created the deputy chief position this spring to consolidate two captain positions into the new leadership role for her administration that began at the start of 2026.
“Alan brings a strong combination of leadership experience, operational knowledge and professionalism that will be incredibly valuable as we continue moving BPD forward,” Chief Wentzell expressed in the same news release. “His background in patrol, investigations, accreditation and records management aligns closely with the needs and future goals of our department. More importantly, he feels like the right fit for BPD, our officers and the Brevard community.”
Deputy Chief Bonanno will take his public oath of office during the July 20 Brevard City Council meeting.
