Carly Hendrix, a fourth-grade teacher at Brevard Academy charter school, has been selected as an Outstanding Elementary Mathematics Teacher by the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

The award recognizes exceptional elementary math educators and their commitment to student success.

“My mission as a teacher is to give my students the tools they need in order to be successful learners, kind humans, and exemplary citizens in our great world,” Hendrix states on Brevard Academy’s website. “I promote good manners, proper speech, grammar and creative thinking. I am a huge advocate for the arts and incorporate them into my life and my classroom as much as possible.”

Brevard Academy Director Ted Duncan said the recognition reflects Hendrix’s dedication to creating meaningful learning experiences and helping students build confidence in mathematics.

“She creates a classroom where students are encouraged to think critically, embrace challenges and discover the joy of learning,” Duncan said in a news release. “We are incredibly proud to see her recognized with this well-deserved honor.”

Hendrix will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the state’s Council of Teachers of Mathematics and will be recognized during the organization’s annual conference to be held this November in Winston-Salem.

Brevard Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Pisgah Forest that promotes student-centered learning with a focus on personal character development.
